Honda Canada's Take on the 2011 Element End

 Honda is ending production of its Element after more than 17,000 sold in Canada since 2002. The company said that customers have "more recently embraced other vehicles in their lineup such as the CR-V."

"The Element defied popular trend designs in favour of a utilitarian shape that showed how functionality can come from thinking inside the box, it made boxy vehicle designs cool and Element owners enjoy its unique styling and versatility." said Jerry Chenkin, VP of Honda Canada

Honda Canada will wind down the model with remaining stock of 2010 Element models so if you want an Element and you live in Canada, head to your local dealer now with the local incentives going on.

You heard it here first that Honda Canada was going to drop the Element for 2010 and not carry a 2011 model.

You heard it here first, Honda has announced that the Element will be ceased to exist after the 2011 model year. Honda cites the declining sales and the popularity of the CR-V.

BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE: Honda Element Ceases Production

Honda has briefly announced that the Element crossover will cease production effective tomorrow. The 2011 model continues to be sold in the United States while Canada will not receive any more new models. No reason was given for the sudden cease. Expect more details by late tomorrow.

Honda Canada scaling back model line for 2011/2012?

Rumors are on the fly that Honda Canada is about to axe the Element for 2011 and the Civic Hybrid for 2011 and possibly even the Insight for 2011. The current design for the Element is on the way out with an uncertain future, the Civic Hybrid however will return for 2012 and the Insight is not selling well in Canada to meet expectations.

Time will tell if Honda chooses to axe the slow-selling products.

Honda Element Overview

The Element followed a concept vehicle called Model X, introduced in 2001. The Model X functionality was conceived with a cross-country road trip in mind, combining some features of a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle. The Model X was first conceived by a core group of young R&D engineers in 1998.

They wanted to develop a vehicle that they could use for their activities and conducted informal on-site focus groups at colleges, beaches, campsites and in the mountains.

Honda Element Dog Friendly concept

In 2007, the Honda Element won the Dogcars.com's "Dog Car of the Year" award. Honda chose to follow up on that with a concept vehicle unveiled in 2009 New York Auto Show specifically designed for canine transportation.It includes an "pet restraint system", an extendable cargo area load-in ramp, a 12V DC rear ventilation fan, second-row seat covers with a simple beige dog-outline pattern design to match the bed cover fabric, all-season rubber floor mats with a toy bone pattern, a fan, and "Dog Friendly" exterior pawprint emblems. A spill-resistant water bowl, also included, can be placed into a nook in the corner of the pet bed.
