Seat Leon 2010 Review

Arrival of the 2010 version of the Seat Leon , the range's most powerful and spectacular car now features even more impressive looks thanks to several elements introduced on the interior and the exterior, making it the perfect extension of the Seat Leon that is making phenomenal strides at the WTCC World Touring Car Championship.

The most obvious is the new silhouette, featuring sophisticated, innovative black honeycomb cooling vents at the front beneath the central grille. The front bumper houses two further black highlights, one at each side, with the word Cupra immediately visible on the left.

The rear features a prominent black moulding at the bottom of the bumper, a polished steel oval tailpipe and the characteristic model name in the centre of the hatch.

A side look at the Seat Leon Cupra reveals a lower ground clearance compared to the basic Leon version, making the car look and feel more like a racing unit. The spectacular 18 inch rims, eye-catching wheel arches and black encased door mirrors are all distinctive traits of the Seat model.

All the interior elements are black clad, replacing the usual light tones on other models. There is a leather steering wheel with aluminium colour inserts and the Cupra logo at the bottom and a matching gearknob. Further sporty details are the white faced instrument dials and aluminium pedals.

Special mention goes to the Seat Leon Cupra Seats, with their true racing bucket styling, featuring integrated headrests and the "Cupra" badge displayed on the backrests. These Seats offer tremendous side support when dealing with corners and driving comfort. An attractive new option is now available in black leather upholstery with white cross-stitching.

The same as on the previous version, the new Seat Leon Cupra 2009 is equipped with the powerful 240 hp 2.0 TSI engine, which provides brilliant performance and delivers exceptional fuel consumption figures. Top speed is clocked at 247 km/h, 0 to 100 km/h acceleration takes only 6.4 seconds, and it covers a standing kilometre in only 26.4 seconds. At the same time, average combined fuel consumption is listed at 8.3 litres for every 100 km.

The new Seat Leon Cupra features such standard equipment as the XDS system, ABS and TCS, ESP with EBA emergency braking, low tyre pressure warning, driver and passenger airbag, side airbag and head airbag, climate control, cornering foglights, trip computer, cruise control, sports suspension and CD radio + MP3 + 8 speakers + Aux-in, among others.

SEAT is wowing the crowds at this week's Barcelona International Motor Show with the debut of a road-ready version of its stunning Ibiza Bocanegra.

Staying remarkably true to the headline-grabbing Bocanegra concept car unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show a little over 12 months ago, the production version is today making its world debut at SEAT's ‘home' show.

Boasting several unique, and dramatic, black styling elements at its nose – hence the Bocanegra name which translates as ‘black mouth' in Spanish – the new iteration of today's Ibiza is set to become one of the hottest superminis around.

Unveiled on the SEAT stand at today's first Press day the Ibiza Bocanegra's styling is also a tribute to the Spaniards' original Bocanegra, the 1200 Sport, which debuted in its home country back in 1975.

The ‘70s car, a milestone in the Brand's history as the first model to be wholly developed at the SEAT Technical Centre in Martorell, quickly went on to become a firm favourite in its home market and notched up sales of more than 11,000 in just three years.

Scroll forward to today, and design features unique to the 2009 car include completely black double headlights, a central grille with honeycomb mesh and black surround including innovative air vents at the base.

The bumper combines black with the body colour, while a broad grille beneath that takes care of cooling the engine.  The fog lights are built into the bumper, which is bigger at the bottom and over the wheel arches, and its distinctly muscular volume contributes toward the car's unmistakably sporty appearance.

Other elements that further add to the Ibiza Bocanegra's image are black door mirror housings, a dark tinted sunroof and attractive 17-inch ‘Sira' alloys.

At the back, the Bocanegra features honeycomb mesh on the side grids, an impressive spoiler, chunky wheel arches and a tinted rear window. And if anyone were in any doubt that this really is a special SEAT, there's a prominent “Bocanegra” badge centred on the rear hatch of this most exclusive Ibiza .

Inside, the design delights continue with a bespoke interior that underlines the car's  sporting style.

The sports seats are upholstered with special fabric made up of rhomboids stitched together in red, while the upper part of the seats sport the logo that identifies this version – a capital ‘B' also stitched in red.

Other eye-catching features inside include the three-spoke steering wheel, flattened at its base, which displays a capital ‘B' in aluminium in the middle of the vertical spoke.

Gloss black trim, aluminium-clad pedals and, of course, the Bocanegra logo on the instrument panel distinguish this car from the forthcoming FR and Cupra versions, too.

In its home market the new Bocanegra will be equipped with the twin charged 1.4 TSI engine, either in 150 PS or 180 PS guise.  This new generation engine guarantees both brilliant performance and exceptional economy.

Meanwhile, XDS electronic limited slip differential and a state-of-the-art seven-speed DSG gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts underline the Bocanegra's hi-tech appeal.

Welcoming the car's dramatic show debut today Head of SEAT UK , Peter Wyhinny, said: ‘The surprise unveiling of Luc Donckerwolke's brilliant design concept at Geneva last year caused a real buzz around the show, and I'm sure the appearance of this remarkable production version will do the same in Barcelona .

‘I'm very much looking forward to seeing right-hand drive versions of the Ibiza Bocanegra turning heads on UK roads later this year.'

25th SEAT Anniversary Special Edition

SEAT is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its most popular model, the Ibiza, at the Barcelona International Motor Show. The Spanish brand will be highlighting a special version that pays tribute to the first car developed by SEAT as an independent company – an absolute best-seller since its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in 1984.

The Ibiza is now into its fourth generation, and each one can be characterised by its youthful sporty spirit, excellent cost-effectiveness and brilliant performance, making this model a powerful icon for generations of Spanish youth and Spanish motoring alike.

The new version of the Ibiza , called “25th anniversary”, will be available in the SC and 5-door body styles equipped with the 85 hp 1.4 and 105 hp 1.9 TDI engines and Sport trim. Equipment includes climate control, dark glass, 17 inch alloy rims, parking position door mirrors, passenger airbag disconnection and USB port + Bluetooth, all for the additional price of 384.27 € on the Diesel engine version and 400 € with the petrol engine (in Spain). On the exterior, the new Ibiza “25th anniversary” differs from the rest of the Ibiza range models with an exclusive logo designed for the occasion.

At the same time, SEAT has prepared an exhibit of the four generations for the Barcelona show, where visitors can take a look at the evolution of the Ibiza since its launch.

Without a doubt, this is a fitting tribute to a car that has a dedicated chapter in the Spanish brand's history book. Its aim is to continue being a benchmark in its segment in terms of quality, design and technology, not only in the present but also in the future.
