February 28: Final day of Winter Olympics
Thanks to all who followed this mini-blog during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Hope you all enjoyed the games. See you in Sochi.
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) had fun: "On the floor for the show pretty epic http://twitpic.com/15z3rh"
Closing ceremony is always for the athletes so glad they enjoyed themselves. Huge congrats to all who participated. Just making the Olympics is an incredible accomplishment.
Louie Vito (@louievito) has a crush: "Oo love avril hahaha." He then asks: "Thanks everyone who has followed me. Hopefully people don't unfollow now that everything is over. Hahaha."
You heard the man. Keep following him.
Devon Kershaw (@devonkershaw) saw Sid's goal: "Wham! We are hockey - boom!"
Allison Baver (@speedsk8chic) documents the celebration: "The entire city is outside hanging from balcony's going crazy right now! http://bit.ly/bBdRpb"
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) gives props to USA hockey: "USA mens Hockey team played like warriors. Proud. Stand tall! Glad I could be here to experience this...you guys are all champions!"
What an amazing hockey game. One of the best I've ever seen. As a Pens and USA hockey fan, i can only say
I know it was you, Sidney. You broke my heart.
February 27
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) with info on my new favorite sport: "Check out @curling for some good curlin updates. They're the best!"
And following now.
Julia Mancuso (@JuliaMancuso) offers an invite: "Party tomorrow!!!! come play with me:) and celebrate the Olympics! maybe I'll show you my medals:) http://bit.ly/aTJ5NT"
Who wants to buy me a plane ticket to Vancouver?
Steve Mesler (@SteveMesler) is a champion: "Olympic Champion...no words..."
I've been saying throughout the games that I couldn't imagine what I would say if I won a gold medal. Sometime the athletes don't, either.
Chad Hedrick (@chadhedrick) has number five: "Just got my silver medal in Vancouver- that's five medals now in five different distances in two Olympics- WOW! I'm officially retired."
Enjoy retired life with your family, Chad. Way to represent team USA.
Gretchen Bleiler (@GretchenBleiler) has one more trip: "Getting ready to head back to Vancouver for closing ceremonies! Can't believe the Olympics are over! Just in time for my BC Heli Trip!"
I can't believe the games are over, either. The Winter Olympics have been fantastic.
February 26
Sorry for late update as snow storm kept me away from Internet all day.
Jeret Peterson (@speedypeterson) is grabbing his medal: "Going to medal ceremonies to get my silver medal!!!"
I say again; what an incredible feeling that must be.
Devon Kershaw (@devonkershaw) with some...interesting Tweets: "This is ridiculous. Arild was 2nd hottest man in Norway in 1986, and Alex is now 2nd hottest man at the 2010 Olympics. http://tiny.cc/3Hw4U. Just so you know, Bode was #1. Alex did beat Brent McMurtry (who was 3rd). McMurr does have a bit of a "Marlboro man" look going on. Alex isn't the most humble man I've ever sat beside while computing. Move over Arild Monsen."
Um. Sure, Devon. Whatever you say.
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) is preppin' for Sunday: "@speedypeterson Congrats on your silver medal!!! See you at Closings!"
Every two years it seems that 17 days just fly right by. Can't believe the games are just about done.
February 25
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) is a wild, wild man: "Livin the dream and headin to whistler in the morning to go boarding...."
Hopefully things go better for Chris at Whistler than they did while curling or else he's going to be in some major pain.
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) has a ceremony to prepare for: "off to finally get our medals!!! It's been a whirlwind of a ride so far...I promise I'll tweet when I can! Thanks everyone!!! I'm putting on my podium gear!!! Super stoked!!! Headed out the door to get our OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDAL!!"
Way to represent the USA! I can't imagine how it must feel to receive that medal.
Nicole Joraanstad (@NicCurl) saw something cool: "Just found the Olympic Flame! It was beautiful :)"
Unfortunate that a medal wasn't around her neck when she found the flame. USA curling 2014!
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) is fueling up: "Relaxing with fam and friends. John Schaeffer (my strength coach) is going to cook up some good dinner 4 me. Fuel! 25/8."
Ohno has one more skate ahead of him. Probably the last of his Olympic career. Can he add to his legacy?
February 24
Louie Vito (@louievito) with a sad Tweet: "RIP to my homie CR Johnson. He will be missed by EVERYONE. At least he was doin what he loved but CR YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!"
A very sad story. You can read more about it here.
Angela Ruggiero (@Angela Ruggiero) with big news: "I was just elected by my fellow Olympians to the IOC Athletes' Comm.! http://bit.ly/cKs1B0 I am so honored!!"
Congrats to Angela. Now get that gold tomorrow! LETS GO TEAM USA!
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) is done competing but the fun has just begun: "Hangin out at the USA house. Gonna go to freestyle aerials tonight I think."
USA Curling in 2014!
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) is confident: ""Awesesauce". I'll have another bowl please. Thank you. Friday our Men's relay team has a chance to win a medal. I believe."
Do you want to bet against them right now? I certainly do not.
February 23
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) is ready to begin: "PPS (pre-race) is done! Now for lunch and then off to the track for my Olympic debut!!!"
No spoiler here as I believe NBC will show this event live in the night coverage. Best of luck to Elana and team USA.
Jeret Peterson (@speedypeterson) with a spoiler: "Hey everyone! I qualified for Finals!!!! I am SOOOO stoked! thank you for all of the messages!!! http://bit.ly/9HAT5T"
Click the link at the end of the post to send congrats/well wishes via Facebook. There are a ton of messages as of this update.
Evan Lysacek (@EvanLysacek) sends congrats: "@AngelaRuggiero way to go Ang and Team USA!!"
The USA women have one more to go and it's against the hometown team. I'm looking forward to that one.
Julia Mancuso (@JuliaMancuso) knows the SI Jinx doesn't apply to the Olympics: "Sports illustrated cover!!! US Ski team rocks! http://bit.ly/bzhQ3L"
I may have to add this one to my collection. Check out the link as it really is a cool picture.
February 22
Louie Vito (@louievito) supports Team USA hockey: "Bout to head to my first women's hockey game...Time to watch the US chicas handle it today."
Boy did the USA women dominate. Get that gold, ladies.
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) finished Q & A on Twitter again. Check out his link for more.
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) has some time: "chillin in the village for a bit...."
Final action for USA curling in these Winter Olympics is fast approaching. We're still cheering you guys on.
Emily Samuelson (@EmilySamuelson) has one more to go: "Last competition tonight! So excited for the free dance.. only a few more hours now!"
Sorry, Emily, but curling and hockey has all of my love right now.
February 21
Emily Cook (@)emilycook) is resting: "Mellow day today while the guys take over the aerial hill for two days. Happy to let my mind and body rest and get ready for Wednesday."
Be sure to watch out for Emily on Wednesday in what is one of the more exciting events you will see.
Gretchen Bleiler (@GretchenBleiler) has a question for you: "What Olympic sport should we watch today? Curling? Hockey? Cross Country? Skier Cross? Enjoying the rest of the Olympics and Vancouver!"
Easy. Hockey, than curling, than USA-Canada hockey game tonight. Cannot wait. Let's go USA!
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) wants your questions: "Q&A? Anyone interested? Let's start in 5-10 min."
So how does it feel to make history? I'll be waiting for your answer, sir.
Evan Lysacek (@EvanLysacek) is going home: "About to take off for LA. I can't believe I'm heading home with the Gold! It's a dream come true!!!"
Congrats again to Evan. Way to represent the U-S-A
February 20
Hilary Knight (@Hilary_Knight) has a couple days to think about it: "Enjoyed the day off yesterday. Today we have practice! Next game is against Sweden on Monday at 12pm pacific!"
Hopefully USA hockey can remain undefeated. Blow work off if you have to watch. The Olympics are worth it.
Nicole Joraanstad (@NicCurl) at it again: "Heading to the venue to take on Great Britain. Going to play smart and solid!"
Let's get another win for USA curling. I can't wait to watch. Curling, the most popular sport of these Olympics? Just sayin'.
Trevor Marsicano (@tmarsicano) is ready for the day: "Today is the 1500. They start at 415pm vancouver time (815pm est). I am pair 14. On my way to the rink."
Don't forget to watch tonight on NBC. There's a cheap plug for you. I should get some ad rev for that.
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) is getting used to this winning thing: "proud of jeff and smitty especially, hell yeah boys. good game. off to hang out with vernon and hit up some spped skatin tonight. let loooooose.... sounds nice to me"
Know what's better than two wins. Three. And more. Keep 'em comin', Team USA.
February 19
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) sends congrats: "@EvanLysacek congrats!!!! Enjoy the moment! Team USA is doing incredible. Feeling the Vancouver love! Let's go n git it!"
Keep the medals coming, Team USA. We're behind you 100 percent.
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) is also busy: "We're sliding tonight!!! SO EXCITED!!! WOO HOO!"
Gee, I wish she was enjoying her time in Vancouver. These Olympic athletes take everything so seriously...
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) is celebrating win number one: " Thanks for all the support everyone. Love it and love y'all. Thanks!"
Nice to see Team USA finally win one. Curling is so awesome.
Evan Lysacek (@EvanLysacek) is the golden boy: "I miss you guys. Been doing crazy media!!! I want to see you before tomorrow!"
I bet you're a little busy Evan. Congrats.
February 18
Jeremy Abbott (@jeremyabbottpcf) thinks it's going to be a good night: "I gotta a feelin.... :D"
Good luck to Jeremy. U-S-A!! U-S-A!!
James Southam (@Masterskier) gives a weather update: "Beautiful day in Whistler. Great ski and woke up from a nap to find a Kaladi Brothers care package! Thanks guys!"
Whistler is a sweet name for a location. Hopefully the weather starts to cooperate for Olympic athletes.
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) tweeted tons of answers to fan questions earlier. Click his Twitter link to read these. He's a cool dude (I said it).
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) is looking for followers: "if you aren't doing so already- follow me on twitter: @eamslider24http://bit.ly/d6Ndag. Also follow @brownie_shelley my best friend and Canadian brakeman for Helen Upperton! She's amazing!"
I think she should thank me if she gets more followers. Hey, I'm getting the word out to the Twitter world not currently on Twitter.
Nicole Joraanstad (@NicCurl) is confident: "Today is THE day. Watch out world...here we come. :)"
Hopefully she's right because the men lost yet another heart breaker.
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) does have a cool dad: "my dad gets more airtime than me! hahaha"
His dad is the greatest USA fan in the country. Seriously.
February 17
Hilary Knight (@Hilary_Knight) promises an exciting interview: "at the ellen interview omg we are going crazy with excitement check US out it airs tomorrow"
Plenty to be excited about as Knight and her teammates are playing great thus far.
Nicole Joraanstad (@NicCurl) did not have such a great day: "We were so close...playing well. Now we are hanging with family for some food and drink. :)"
USA curling has had a rough Olympics thus far. It's too bad because curling is an amazing sport. Been watching for over 20 years.
Steve Mesler (@SteveMesler) with a spoiler alert: "Congrats to @LindseyVonn ! That got us all fired up to start training today, thanks and great job Linds!"
Guess that shin was just fine, eh? Way to go Lindsey.
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) had some free time: " I posted 124 photos on Facebook in the album "My Pics" http://bit.ly/cjjE4I"
Seven pages full of pics. That should keep you Apolo Ono fans content for some time.
February 16
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) is again to the point: "Meditation, mental prep. Steam room."
If his tweets are any guide, being an Olympian -- and a winning one -- entails more than exceptional physical skill.
Louie Vito (@louievito) has the weather on his mind: "Watchin some women's boardercross before we head up for practice. Sounds like the rain is gone for the rest of the week."
And he's not the only one worrying about the Vancouver weather. Check out Steven Holcomb's photo -- http://tweetphoto.com/11618884. Also, Tuesday's weather delayed Alpine skiing, snowboarding and ski jumping.
Steven Holcomb (@pcbobsledder) is showing off his photo skills: "Even a foggy day is a good day! http://tweetphoto.com/11618884"
Want to see what the 2010 Olympic venues look like when there isn't fog? Check out the photos from the Vancouver press kit, put together by Brad Sylvester. It's here.
February 14
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) posts pics from the curling arena: "just had practice @ the arena. Real nice. It'll look even better with a packed house!http://twitpic.com/138x9i"
Did you know curling stones (those puck-looking things they glide down the ice) can vary in weight during competition? According to the World Curling Federation, the stone should weigh between 38 and 44 pounds.
Devon Kershaw (@devonkershaw) piles on Biden: "By the way - @gordonjewett, @alex_harvey, and @devonkershaw are fans of the Obama admin. Just would rather not wait for Biden (Obama, sure)"
The Veep just isn't getting any love in Vancouver.
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) is OK without love on the track: "Happy Valentine's Day!!! No Valentine for me this year...but doesn't mean I still can't celebrate!!"
Check out Elana's official Olympic blog here: www.elanameyers.blogspot.com
February 13: First competition day for many events (AC's Tim is taking over for Zac for a couple days.)
Scott Lago (@scottylago) is checking out the competition: "Me and @louievito and @gregbretzz are moving over to a house closer to cypress, I'm going to miss all the hott Russians though"
Lago is probably stoked the Cold War is over; now there's more opportunity for "international cooperation," so to speak.
Alex Harvey (@alex_harvey): "So Joe Bidden is comming to the ski site...they closed the road for 20 min while he smokes a cigarette. Training is postponed for us." ... and then tweeted almost immediately, from @alex_harvey: "Still not moving."
Say it ain't so, Joe. So, far the only thing slowing down the spirit of a few Olympians is the VP.
Steve Mesler (@SteveMesler) enjoys the view: "The view out of the west side of the bus on the way up to Whistler. The Sea to Sky highway is incredible! http://tweetphoto.com/11283170"
BC's Whistler is a great place indeed, and in recent years has been named a top world ski destination by Forbes, Outside Magazine and other media outlets.
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) is short and sweet: "6 hours till the first race. Preparing."
The normally loquacious Ohno is almost Zen-like with this tweet. He's a five-time Olympics medalist from 2002 and 2006.
Allison Baver (@speedsk8chic) is a shutterbug: "I posted 15 photos on Facebook in the album "Opening Ceremonies 2010" http://bit.ly/aTn5GL"
Here are some great group shots from the Opening Ceremonies.
February 12: Opening Ceremony tonight

I cannot.
Chris Plys (@chrisplys) with best picture thus far: "Move over Biden lol http://twitpic.com/12vaie"
One word describes this. The word is "awesome"
Katherine Reutter (@katreutter) is watching the Opening Ceremony on TV: "I'm not walking in opening ceremonies:/ But this way i'm ready to race my best tomorrow"
Always hear about these athletes during Summer and Winter Olympics. Sadly, some just have to stay behind for the Opening Ceremony.
Steve Mesler (@SteveMesler) has posted pics: With Chris Collinsworth in the holding arena before Opening Ceremonies! http://tweetphoto.com/11189680 and "And the teams keep coming and coming! http://tweetphoto.com/11191642"
Somehow it's not the same as being there. It's probably colder here, though.
Tweets about Nodar Kumaritashvili tragedy:
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno): "Final prep is complete. So sad to hear about the Georgian Olmpic Luger. My heart goes out to them. :-("
Steven Holcomb (@pcbobsledder): "My thoughts and prayers are with the Georgian Olympic team. The sliding community suffered a tragic and devastating loss to our family today"
Elli Ochowicz (@Eochowicz): "Very to sad to hear of the Luge athlete who died in a training run crash today. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family"
James Southam (@Masterskier): "Nodar Kumaritashvili 21 years old from Georgia. Rest in peace."

Jeremy Abbott (@jeremyabbottpcf): "A moment of silence for Nodar Kumaritashvili. Olympic Luger from Georgia who died today in a training run up in Whistler... RIP"
A horrible, horrible tragedy.
Hilary Knight (@Hilary_Knight) asks the big question:"can't wait to see who's lighting the final tonight!"
Still think it's the Great One. Living the lie.
Emily Cook (@)emilycook) on Today: "Cook, Peterson Appear on "Today": http://bit.ly/cltbyS"
I don't think I'm going to get sick of these Today Show moments anytime soon.
Apolo Anton Ohno (@ApoloOhno) dances: Check it! Meredith Vieira @todayshow am I doing some dancing on ice and gliding on the dance floor: http://bit.ly/aRvIdH
Apolo Ohno could turn out to be the Tweeter of these Winter Olympic games. You can cast your vote at any time.
Scotty Lago (@scottylago) has quite the meeting: "were going to meet the vice president of the USA tomorrow what should we talk about health care? War? Economy? Haha"
Even Olympic athletes should use proper punctuation. I think you should talk about Brangelina.
Simon Cho (@TheRealSimonCho) is ready for the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony: "If you're watching the opening ceremonies tomorrow and you happen to see one of the athletes fist pumping, it's probably me :)"
Now if I don't see this, I will be very, very disappointed.
February 11

Steven Holcomb (@pcbobsledder) checks his eyes: "My final eye exam before the Olympic Games. http://tweetphoto.com/11080790"
My vote for best Winter Olympics Tweet of the day. So far.
Jeremy Abbott (@jeremyabbottpcf) is a little shy: "I met fellow hometown Olympian @GretchenBleiler in the elevator. I was too shy 2 introduce myself yesterday. Darn me 4 being so awkward! lol"
Sa-wing and a miss.

Another awww Olympic parent moment.
Steven Holcomb (@pcbobsledder) is quite busy: "Nothing like doing a 5 hour media tour, did I mention it was from 2-7am? So many "Morning Shows"!! Was anybody actually awake and watching?"

You've been hit by, you've been struck by Scotty Lago

Sorry, Devon, but I'll be rooting for the ol' USA.
Chandra Crawford (@ChandraCrawford) is starting to get nervous: "Just heading out for my last ski at the nordic center with Daitchee. Feeling a general anxiousness overall. A smooth ski will help."
Winter Olympics = Butterflies x 100
Emily Samuelson (@EmilySamuelson) has every right to be excited: "Today is the day! Leaving for the airport & before I know it we'll be in Vancouver! It still hasn't hit me.. I'm going to the Oympics... Wow"
For those of you who don't get what the Olympics are about, just read the above post.
Evan Lysacek (@EvanLysacek) teaches an important lesson: "Unwritten Law: The more people that are waiting in the security line at LAX, the less lanes are open. Logical?"
Learn something new every day. I did not know this.
Some overnight Tweets:
Scotty Lago (@scottylago) also loves the outfits for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics: "Had to throw this in there opening cermonies outfits haha classic look. http://twitpic.com/12jvau"
The Opening Ceremony outfits really are rather stylish.
Jeremy Abbott (@jeremyabbotpcf) a little too excited? "It's WAY past my bed time, but I have so much to organize for the morning! First practice tomorrow :)"
You, sir, had better get some more rest the next couple of days.

Haven't read any complaints about the Olympic Village yet.
Angela Ruggiero (@Angela Ruggiero) has quite the view: "My beautiful view from the Olympic Village...does it get any better? http://tweetphoto.com/10980726"
Vancouver is a beautiful, beautiful city. It could also take about a foot of snow from outside my window.
Louie Vito (@louievito) is unhappy: "I thought delta until they lost my bag on a direct flight. You would think havin them be a sponsor of the us team and my havin status..."
Delta: You'll love the way we fly. How we handle bags, on the other hand...
Elana Meyers (@eamslider24) also on her way: "On the plane to Vancouver!!! Here we go!! http://twitpic.com/12fkyx"
Hopefully she posts a picture of snowy Vancouver as she approaches, as well.
Family trip to Vancouver with Mercedes Nicoll (@mercedesnicoll): "On the road to the Vancouver village! Got the best dad ever, he's driving me!! Xoxo"
